Playoffs Results

In the Super J Under 16 Schools Basketball Tournament defending champions Leon Hess Comprehensive narrowly defeated Corinth Secondary 19 – 17 in a lackluster affair. At Half time the score was 9 -8 in favour of Leon Hess. The main contributors for Leon Hess were Jamal Adjodha 8 Points, 5 Rebounds and 5 Steals and Denzel Renee 8 Points. For Corinth Michael Jn. Paul had a game high 11 Points and 14 Rebounds.

Buoyed by a very appreciated supporting crowd Tournament favourites Castries Comprehensive was knocked out of the Play Offs when they were defeated by a spirited and determined St. Mary’s College 73 – 61. It was a very exciting match up, however the momentum swung College’s way when Zevi Clarke one of Castries Comprehensive main players found himself in foul trouble midway through the second Quarter and was forced to spend most of the time on the bench. in his absence his fellow players failed to step up their game to which College took full advantage of and at one point time opened up a 22 point margin. At half time the score was 34 – 34 but at the end of the third quarter College had out scored Castries Comprehensive 22 – 5. They never looked back and though they were outscored in the final quarter 17 – 22 the damage was already done.

College was led by Lance Louis 27 Points, 12 Rebounds; Omodelle Phillip 13 Points; and Herbert Regis 8 Points.

The action continues on Monday in the Super J Under 16 with Vieux Fort Comprehensive playing host to Babonneau Secondary; Castries Comprehensive takes on Clendon Mason Memorial at the Vigie Complex at 2.00 p.m. while in the Under 19 Division Title contenders George Charles Secondary takes on the Micoud Secondary at 3.00 p.m. at the Vigie Complex.

Them boys can eat!

On December 30th, 2008 players of the VFCSS basketball team gathered for a social event organised by Mrs. Prescott and Mrs. Charles, two avid parents/fans of VFCSS basketball. The event was well received by all, the highlight for me being the parents versus under 16 players match.

My heartfelt thanks to all the parents who supported, participated, followed and cried with us last year. For me this brought a new dimension to coaching youth basketball.

The parents will be a useful part of our coaching program in 2009. Posted by Picasa

School Sports Results December 11, 2008

Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School finally broke the stranglehold which Vieux Fort Comprehensive seemed to have established in this year’s School Sports Tournament, by defeating them 46 – 41 in the Finals of the Consolidated Foods Limited Under16 Schools Basketball Tournament. Indeed it was a hard fought victory by the players from the hill who had to pull out all the stops to combat the surge mounted by their opponents from the South. By all indications this was the game of the entire Basketball Tournament and both teams must be complimented for their very fine showing. School Sports Results December 10, 2008

Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School successfully defended their championship by defeating a spirited Corinth Secondary School Team 77 – 60 in the Finals of the Under 19 Schools Basketball Tournament at the Vigie Multi Purpose Complex yesterday afternoon. Indeed it was a clinical display by the lads from South, whose victory came as a result of their better all-round play, and the superior quality of their bench. In addition, they were well marshaled by the cool composure of their captain Givan Jonas who had an outstanding game both on the Offensive and Defensive end of the Court. In the end he had a “Triple Double” 34 Points, 28 Rebounds, 10 Steals, and 3 Assists. He was ably assisted by Desmond Charles 17 Points, Tashan Auguste 13 Points, 9 Steals and Kervin Mathurin 7 Points, 11 Rebounds and 5 Steals.

Once again Corinth main contributor was Andre’ Louission with a “Game High” 41 Points, 30 Rebounds and 6 Steals. Indeed it was a herculean performance by him. He received token assistance from Baggio Desir 8 Points, and Miguel Charles 7 Points and 10 Rebounds.

In the Third Place Play OFF, a determined George Charles Secondary School capitalized on a rather indifferent performance from St. Mary’s College defeating them 68 – 54 to capture the Trophy. George Charles made good of their opportunities and their strong will to win saw them through. For George Charles Julian Agiou had a “Triple Double” 24 Points, 18 Rebounds, 11 Steals and 6 Assists; Jervais Charles 15 Points 11 Rebounds and 5 Steals; 8 Points and 10 Rebounds.
For St. Mary’s College, it was the ever consistent Sharm Smith with a “Game High” 40 Points and 9 Steals.

Congratulations to the Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School; Corinth Secondary School and George Charles Secondary who in addition to their final placing also won their Zonal Group Award.

This afternoon, Vieux Fort Comprehensive returns to the Vigie Multi Purpose Sports Complex for the Finals of the Consolidated Foods Limited Under 16 Basketball Tournament where they will come against Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School. This match promises to be a very keen and exciting one as both teams possess quality players who also play in the Under 19 Division. Jump Ball Time for this Match Up is 2:00 p.m.

A final reminder, the Finals of the Under 16 Football Tournament will be played on Friday 12th December, at the Mindoo Phillip Park from 1:00 p.m. between Vieux Fort Comprehensive and Gros IsLet Secondary School.

To date in the Four Finals that Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School has contested they have won every one of them; indeed a major feat worthy of the highest praise.
