Officials Workshop

Please be reminded that the officials workshop takes place this Saturday, January 31st, at 2:00pm at the Vieux Fort Primary School.

Every team participating in the Lime Premier League is required to provide persons, hopefully non-players, who will assist with the officiating of the games. If you would like to participate in the officiating, or can suggest someone who would be a good candidate, please feel free to advise this person to attend.

We are looking for as many as 20 persons to attend this workshop, which may also serve as a rules update for most players. Please make a special effort to attend.

This workshop will be conducted by the National Basketball Officiating Committee, by the direction of the St. Lucia Basketball Federation (SLBF).

SLBF Meeting - Tournament requirements

Ernest Hilaire
St. Lucia Basketball Federation Meeting
January 10, 2009

The ten teams that are here will be the ten teams which will be formally invited. Certain requirement will have to be completed before a club can play its first match.
  • Formal affiliation to the federation;
  • Complete essential SLBF documentation: team personnel form, agreement to particpate, etc.
  • Participation in coaches' and officials' workshops in preparation for the league
After fullfilling these requirements clubs will be presented a manual for participation in the tournament.

Lime Premier League in 2009 will be a ten team tournament. 2010 will see the inclusion of the second division. 2 or 3 teams from the 2009 tournament will be relegated to the second division in 2010.

There will be two match days per week, with two matches on each day. SLBF will endeavour to assist participating clubs with their transportation costs as much as possible.

SLBF is negotiating with the sponsor for each club to receive the sponsor's uniform, and the team would use this uniform when playing away games. Thus if a club is sponsored by a community business, the team would use their sponsor's uniform when playing home games.

The plan is to use no more than four courts, based on inspection of the facilities island wide. The best of three Semi-finals and Finals will be played at the Beausejour indoor facility.

SLBF will require each club to nominate someone who will be responsible for the management of the matches. This person(s) will be paid a small stipend to ensure that the grounds are cleaned, the sponsors banner is displayed properly, and the officials and players' areas are prepared according to the required standard. Responsible clubs will be fined if such requirements are not completed.

SLBF Meeting - Let's work together

Meeting of the St. Lucia Basketball Federation
On January 10, 2009

The attached video footage presents Mr. Ernest Hilaire.

SLBF needs the commitment and support of the affiliates to get the work done. SLBF will provide any assistance needed to help build your organisation/club structure. Workshops will also be provided to develop players, coaches and officials.

Let us commit ourselves to organizing the Premier League differently. Let us make the launch of the Premier League the start of something glorious in basketball. We can do it! So let's start doing it! SLBF will provide all the leadership, but we need the affiliates to be consistent in attending meetings and participating in the process.

Today we will register the teams, decide which courts we are going to use, and look to improve these courts in the short term. Preparatory workshops for coaches and officials will be provided in the next few weeks.

Lime is the exclusive sponsor of the Premier League and as such there will be obligations to the sponsor and to the federation
