The Saint Lucia Basketball Federation and Supersonic Courts Jets have organized a Basketball-O-Rama for tomorrow, Saturday 6th June, at the Vigie Complex in order to provide financial assistance for our ailing compatriot Morgan "Mr. Magic" George.

Registration is $50.00 per team or $5.00 per player. Trophy prizes will be awarded to the First Place, Second Place teams and the MVP of the Tournament.

Mr. Magic will make a brief appearance at the event when he will be presented a celebratory plaque for his lifetime contribution to the game of basketball in Saint Lucia.

Courts Jets won the LIME Hoops Classics Championship by taking the first two of the best of three games. Courts Jets was awarded EC$3000.00 prize money and Dennery Dolphins received EC$1000.00.

The Finals MVP was Ron Du Murville (Courts Jets). He had a total of 64 Points 30 Rebounds and an efficiency ratio of 37.0

Free Playoffs Passes for Team Members

The membership of the various clubs who participated in the LIME Hoops Classics are allowed to participate in the semi-finals - free entry with picture ID. Any player who behaves poorly risk being denied a complementary pass on the day and for the remainder of the games.

SLBF is to appear on the HTS sports programme tomorrow evening. I would suggest a member of each team in the playoffs to join me. You are not obligated to be there however if we are able to have say Philbert (VBCC) and Elijah (Courts Jets) then that would be great. The players must have their turn in front the cameras also. I did not mention Soufriere or Dennery for obvious reasons however they too are invited.

Anticipation for LIME HC Playoffs

The LIME Hoops Classics have brought nothing but sheer joy and satisfaction to the players and fans that had previously been starved of the evident high quality standard of a Basketball Premiere League. During the regular season large followings gathered at Soufriere, Dennery and the Vigie Sports Complex, the homes of the four teams that have advanced to the LIME Hoops Classics Playoffs slated for the Beausejour Indoor Facility from Wednesday 13th May from 7 pm. There you may witness Dennery Dolphins and Soufriere Sulphur Stars in the first and Courts Jets and VBCC Warlords in the second semi-finals. If you unfortunately miss this first encounter, all is not lost because more action continues with the second of the best of three series two days later, on Friday 15th May.

But apart from the teams, exactly who should we be looking for? Which players stood up to the challenge and led their teams into the Playoffs? The players have been ranked according to their efficiency which is mathematically determined.

First, Soufriere and Dennery! The big four of Soufriere against the big three of Dennery.

In their regular season encounter, the big three of Dennery scored 53 points while the big four of Soufriere could only manage 29 points in a losing effort.

Then we have VBCC and the Jets.

Although it is a five verses four situation, during their regular season game, Howard Foster did not compete due to injury. In a winning effort, VBCC crew of four scored 44 points while the Jets elite scored 33.

The success of these teams, rely largely on the overall effort of the team, of which the contribution of the team leaders can not be understated. How these players respond to the facility at Beausejour and the audience of approximately 700 spectators will soon be answered, and between the Jazz and Carnival it is perhaps well worth making Basketball at Beausejour, the popular LIME.

LIME Playoffs Presentation Ceremony

On Wednesday 6th May, LIME held a ceremony at its grounds in Corinth to make a presentation to the St. Lucia Basketball Federation. The four teams that qualified for the semi-finals and finals collectively referred to as the LIME HC Playoffs, were in attendance and seem very excited about; well just about everything, their LIME Team Officials Shirts, Basketballs, their LIME Uniforms and which team will advance to the finals and eventually win the championship.

At times it resembled the NBA Lottery and other times it seemed like they were predicting and casting their bet, so much so, that the President of the Federation, had his hands full, in attempting to keep the excitement at a manageable level and when that failed he would simply close the door and the nearby LIME employees would now be able to function as they were used too. To get an idea of what the entire buzz was about, the public will have to join the four teams when they go at each other at the LIME HC Playoffs which begin on Wednesday 13th May at the Beausejour Indoor Facility. We can anticipate the enthusiasm of the teams and excitement, never mind the rain, hopefully it will not be able to put a damper on any of the games at least not as it did the Jazz; the Beausejour Facility will help in that regard.

Talking about Jazz, it is then we will find out which teams that will be dancing and to which tune. At the first Jump ball, the top ranked team, the Soufriere Sulphur Stars will be contesting the fourth ranked team, the Dennery Dolphins. The Dolphins will not enjoy playing at home as they did in the regular season when they handed the Sulphur Stars their only defeat 64 – 42. In that effort the Dolphins had three fewer turnovers and two more rebounds with a field goal percent of 38.6 and the Sulphur Stars 36.2 %. Pretty close figures for a victory margin of 22 points. The important detail seems to have been that the Dolphins had 23 more shot attempts. Let us take a look at how the teams performed in the regular season and you decide where their strength lies.

The second contest between the number two team, VBCC Warlords and number three Courts Jets will hopefully build on the excitement that was generated when they played their first game of the tournament in which the Jets lead from start well into the fourth quarter only to have the Warlords demonstrate that the victory is in the hands of one that can endure as opposed to the swift.

Head to head Courts Jets shot 32.9 % from the field, Warlords 34.8. However Warlords shot 50% of their Free throw to Jets 38.9 %. The Warlords also enjoyed 8 more rebounds and 9 more assists. It is time to take a look at their figures now as they head into the Playoffs.

With the figures seemingly quite close, are you able to decide which team will edge its way through? I have made my decision and that is to be at the LIME HC Playoffs where amazing is bond to happen; good Basketball and a great LIME.

The following dates have been confirmed for the LIME HC Playoffs at
the Beausejour Indoor Facility by St. Lucia Sports Inc.

Wednesday 13th & 20th, Friday 15th & 22nd and Sunday 17th & 24th. I
will confirm those dates with the media tomorrow...so that you have
the information first.

In addition the Invitational featuring the Champion team from ANTIGUA
& BARBUDA, DEFENCE FORCE (ABDF) WARRIORS will be staged on Thursday
28th, Saturday 30th & Sunday 31st May at the Beausejour Indoor
facility.

The LIME Hoops champion will receive an automatic invitation. Two
other teams will be selected. These teams will be decided at a later
date.

For the Invitational, Clubs will be required to register 12 players
and will be have the option of using St. Lucian players that did not
participate in the LIME Hoops Classics. It is important to remember
that players will only be allowed to play for one team during a single
year of competition.

Female Basketball Sessions

Grateful if you would attend to the following and ensure that your
organisation is represented. Do remember that in order for us to start
a female league we must prepare from now and although we received this
information late it is worth our most urgent attention. More
information follows.

Last week the St. Lucia Basketball Federation received word from the
Universal Peace Federation concerning the availability of two female
basketball coaches from Wednesday 6th to Saturday 9th May.

The first coach, Ms Diesa Seidel is the Founder of United Initiatives
for Peace and a former professional athlete and the other coach, Ms
Grace Daley is a first round WNBA draft pick and All-American
basketball player who holds numerous scoring records and accolades in
the USA and abroad (playing for the Minnesota Lynx, New York Liberty,
Houston Comets, Phoenix Mercury and top European teams).

Diesa and Grace are expected to conduct two sessions for female
athletes and female coaches on Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th May from
4 pm to 6 pm at the VBCC / La Clery Basketball Court with a possible
session on Saturday 9th May.

Happy to announce the end of the first round which is the regular season of the LIME Hoops Classics.

The final round, Semi finals and finals referred to as the Play Offs are expected to be held at the Beausejour Indoor Facility commencing the week of May 11th. A best of three format will be use to advance and declare the champions.
