Dolphins vs Warlords Tonight!

With the ST. LUCIA BASKETBALL FEDERATION - and LIME - entering the final third of the LIME HOOPS CLASSICS – fans can be certain to get a treat tonight – Dennery Dolphins and VBCC Warlords - square off at the Dennery multipurpose court at 7 pm.

Both teams have enjoyed a perfect winning streak of four game each – up until last week - the two teams enjoyed the top position along with Soufriere Sulphur Stars – however on Saturday - Dennery Dolphins handed Soufriere their first defeat – and in so doing - set the stage for the biggest game of the season to date.

Both teams have put up similar figures – VBCC Warlords have hooped 258 points and Dennery Dolphins 257 – Dennery Dolphins 155 rebounds and VBCC Warlords 151 – VBCC Warlords 14 block shots - Dennery Dolphins 11 –*- a not so welcomed statistic - referred to as turn overs - Dennery Dolphins 97, VBCC Warlords 92 – the field goal percent for VBCC is 38.95 and Dennery 38.14 –*- if the game is to be decided on the line - perhaps this single stat – the free throw percentage - may make the difference – VBCC enjoys a little cushioning there - with 46.24% while Dennery is at 34.94%

These two teams are not without some history – a number of the VBCC players participated for the fire service team - that went down to the Dennery Dolphins last year - in the este for all - invitational tournament – the VBCC coach – Mr. Glen Kala Guiste - was also the coach of the fire service team - and he may find some comfort – knowing that he did defeat Dennery before Dennery took that championship.

But what may make the difference this time – for Dennery it has to be the comfort of home - and they should attempt to bring out the whole family – 'tout fami yo' - on the other hand - in VBCC unbeaten streak - one may conclude that they have been tested much more - not only that they have faced more teams at the top of the table but have also found themselves to be the last men standing - in two very close encounters – in the first instance – VBCC vs Courts Jets – Courts Jets led the game for three plus quarters but was outscored by VBCC 18 – 8 in the fourth to win 64 – 59 – in the second instance VBCC led Southern Warriors for almost all the game - and actually went into the fourth quarter with a 12 point lead - but Southern Warriors stormed back outscoring VBCC by nine points and tying the game with 38 second left – somehow VBCC escaped by the hair of - most of their chins - and won by 3 points.

Tonight all road lead to Dennery as the drama unfolds – there can only by one – LIME HOOPS CLASSICS!

Field Goal Percent = (97+7)/ (97+7+129+34)*100 = (104/267)*100 = 38.95 %
Three Throw Percent = 43/93 * 100 = 46.24%

Field Goal Percent = (105+6)/ (105+6+172+8)*100 = (111/291)*100 = 38.14 %
Three Throw Percent = 29/83 * 100 = 34.94 %

Inapproriate behaviour towards Officials

By Anthony Lamontagne
President SLBF/Tournament Director LIME Hoops Classic

I have observed the attitude and behaviour of club members on the bench at some
games and from some teams and it is becoming a concern. I have also received
some feedback from other venues......and although the Officials Committee have
not make any formal or informal complaint.......I had better take in front with
this word....

The referees are an invaluable piece of the game without whom there can be no
game. I can not support a player who bashes a coach because he/she made a
decision that was not popular or a coach demoralising a player who made the
wrong decision in a game....likewise I can not support club members whom openly
disrespect the Game Officials. I have witness much of that disrespect in one
form or the other.....some of which may be tolerated depending ........however
club officials must continuously attend to their attitude towards the Game
Officials and be mindful that members will take their cue from you.

There is so much that can be said here....the point is.....let us be alot more
careful.......let us not be selfish.......let us keep our eyes on the bigger
picture and what is at stake here.....let us understand that a huge investment
has been made by LIME and the uglier the game becomes the less likely that we
will get the type of support that have received.........

It should have been here before the tournament............. however you will
soon receive balls and uniforms......we are looking into some entertainment for
the games.....score boards....and sound systems.

We have not even given the spectators their worth as yet....I mean we have not
even scored over 80 points in a game.......that is important....when spectators
sit to view a Premiere League Game and only 50 points are scored then.....that
is 30 points less excitement. I have experienced a tied game with seconds to
go and half of the bench hassling the Referees........instead of WINNING the
game.

We must cut out that BACKWARD aspect of the culture of sports in the smaller
islands......no official is attempting to decide the outcome of the game.

Please be guided by the following extract from the PLAYERS MANUAL

------------------------------------------------------------------
CREATING A DISCIPLINED SPORT

1. Responsibility of the Club Officials

The coaches are responsible at all times for ensuring that the conduct of play
and players is in accordance with this manual including its code of conduct and
technical guidelines.

2. Player's conduct

In the event of a player failing to comply with instructions by a referee, or
criticising by word or action the decision of an official, or showing dissent,
or generally behaving in a manner which might bring the game into disrepute,
the referee concerned shall be responsible to take the necessary action.

3. Fair and unfair play

During a game, the referees are the sole judges of fair and unfair play and all
decisions of the referees are final.

4. The Spirit of the Game is defined as regard for:

The respect of your opponents

The leadership of your coach

The role of the officials

The value of sponsors

The support of spectators

5. It is against the Spirit of the Game:

To dispute an referee's decision by word, action or gesture
To direct abusive language or action towards an opponent, official or spectator

6. Violence

There is no place for any act of violence in any event involving the SLBF and
there is a zero-tolerance of such behaviour.

7. Use of drugs

The use of any illegal drugs is strictly forbidden in any event involving the
SLBF.

I look forward to you continued support and assistance
